Sally McClain, 69, died on March 6, 2024 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, MO, with her son and loving family by her side.
Sally was born on January 17, 1955. She graduated from Alton High School, the University of Illinois, and Washington University in St. Louis Olin Business School in 1990. She worked at Monsanto for 25 years. She then taught for several years before returning to the pharmaceutical industry and ended her career at Thermo Fisher Scientific.
Jed and Sally were married on August 5, 1978. During those thirty-five years, there was not Jed without Sally or Sally without Jed. They were synonymous. Her son, Hunter, was her pride and joy.
Sally was a devout Christian. She was a very special person who never complained even when times were hard. Sally was always present for her family and friends. She was never judgmental. Just loving and willing to do what was needed. Sally was a faithful prayer partner.
Sally was preceded in death by her husband Jed McClain, her parents Dr. Hood and Jane (Hunter) Harris and her sister and brother-in-law Betsy and Dave Shick. She was also preceded in death by her mother-in-law and father-in-law Ralph and Mary Lou McClain.
She is survived by her loving son Hunter (Trey) of St. Louis, MO. Surviving also are two sisters: Nancy Harris of New York, NY; and Susan Benedict (Bill) of St. Louis, MO. Also, Sally is survived by her sisters-in-law: Pam Youngblood (Jim) of Godfrey, IL; and Tanya Collins (Greg) of Springfield, IL; and her brother-in-law Bart McClain (Louetta) of Cockeysville, MD. She will be dearly missed by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until funeral service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2024 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton, IL. Pastors Andre’ Dobson and Christopher Rogers will officiate. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey, IL.
