Ruth Martha Petzoldt

Ruth Martha Petzoldt, 102, of Villa Rose in Bethalto, died at 9:50 pm on Saturday July, 25, 2009 at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton.

She was born May 19, 1907 in Altenburg, MO, the daughter of Henry Fiehler and Martha nee' Dallmann.

She married Rev. Waldemar Petzoldt on July 22, 1928 in Altenburg, MO and he preceded her in death in 1973.

A minister's wife and home maker, she was active in her church with the Ladies Aid, Altar Guild, choir, and Braille Work. She enjoyed over 70 years as a member of the quilters. She was a member of Bethalto Senior Citizens for many years at one time serving as Vice President.

Her main goal in life was serving her Lord Jesus and worshiping him- which she did faithfully until He called her home.

Surviving are a daughter, Delores Darnstaedt and husband, LeRoy of Bethalto, five grandchildren, Rev. Mark Darnstaedt and wife, Linda Karla Darnstaedt, Kristyl Beckwith, Cynthia Petzoldt, and Michael Petzoldt and wife Jan; six great grandchildren, Joel, Janelle, and Jessica Beckwith, Brent, Evan and Rachel Petzoldt; and a daughter-in-law, Gladys Petzoldt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, six siblings, two sons, Robert and Herbert Petzoldt; and one great grandchild.

In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Tuesday July 28, 2009 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto and will continue from 9 am until time of funeral services at 10 am Wednesday July 29, 2009 at Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Daniel Decker officiating.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at Christ Lutheran Cemetery in Jacob, IL with burial beside her husband.

Memorials may be made to Forward in Faith fund at Zion Lutheran Church of to KFUO.
