Ruth Simmons

Ruth Irene Simmons, 88, was ushered into the Lord’s Presence on July 27, 2014 in Fair Oaks, CA.

She was born June 22, 1926 in Jacksonville, IL daughter of the late George W. and Fay N. Carter.

Ruth was a Christian who lived what she believed as she touched the lives of many people with her smile and love for the Lord and her family.  She was a member of the Alton First Southern Baptist Church before moving to California in 2001, Ladies Auxiliary VFW 1308, Alton Chapter 1131, Women of the Moose, life member of the D.A.V.A., Alton American Legion Post 126, and life member of VFW National Home.  Mom will be remembered most for the unconditional love and joy she brought to our lives and for those who knew her.

She will always be remembered as a loving mom by her six children and their spouses, Sally Loman of Decatur, IL, June and Del Rutz of El Dorado Hills, CA, Marsha Messmore of Fredericksberg, VA, Tom and Sandy Sellars of Urbana, IL, David Sellars of Longwood, FL, and Cindy and Mike Soules of Elizabeth City, NC.  She was affectionately known to her ten grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren as “Grandma Ruthie”.  She is also survived by her brothers, Ralph Carter and Jim Carter.

She was preceded in death by her late husband Ray V. Simmons, by her brothers Glen Carter, Harold Carter, Clarence Carter, and sister Mary E. Davis. 

Private graveside services will be held at the Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, IL on August 7, 2014 with Pastor Charles West officiating.

Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be to a Charity of One’s Choice.
