Ruth Marie Hosto, age 89 of Alhambra, IL, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra, IL.
She was born on Saturday, July 11, 1936, in Hamel, IL, the daughter of Fred and Nora (nee Stille) Suhre.
On Thursday, November 22, 1956, she married Robert M. "Bob" Hosto in Alhambra, IL, who passed away on Friday, December 18, 2015.
Ruth was born south of Hamel, IL and moved to Alhambra, IL, at an early age. She lived where the present day Hitz Home stands. Ruth attended Alhambra School and graduated from Highland High School in 1954. She worked as a secretary for Highland Box Board. After marriage, Ruth and her husband lived north east of Alhambra on the Hosto Family Farm. She was a member of Highland Hope United Methodist Church. She was a former long-time member of Salem United Church of Christ in Alhambra. When her children were young, she was active with the Young Couples Club of the church, Alhambra Grade School PTA, and Highland High School Band Parents Association. She worked several years at Hitz Home as a Nursing Assistant and Laundry Aide. She loved antiquing, gardening with her husband and baking. Ruth enjoyed making crafts and selling them at craft fairs. She also enjoyed playing Pinochle with their Card Club.
Ruth is survived by her children - Mark R. (Brenda) Hosto of Alhambra, IL, and Terri L. Hosto of Brentwood, MO; Son-In-Law - Alex Shimkus; Grandchildren - Andrea L. (Ian) Kessler and Robert R. (Breanna) Hosto; Great Grandchildren - Henry, Jack Robert & Hadley; Brother - Ray (Susan) Suhre and Sisters-In-Law - June Suhre, JoAnn (Jim) Kijewski and Betty (Olin) Zweck.
She was preceded in death by her Husband - Robert M. "Bob" Hosto; Parents - Fred & Nora Suhre (nee Stille); Daughter - Kim A. Shimkus; Brother - Robert Suhre; Brother & Sister-In-Law - Gerald & Gatha Suhre and Parents-In-Law - Milton & Frieda (Wegman) Hosto.
Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 2:15 PM on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Dauderman Mortuary in Alhambra, IL.
Funeral Service will be at 2:30 PM on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Dauderman Mortuary in Alhambra, IL, with Rev. Dee Armes, officiating.
Interment will be at Salem Cemetery in Alhambra, IL.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hitz Memorial Home (lighting project) or Salem Cemetery.
