Ruth Helen Apponey, 85, of Pontoon Beach, IL passed away Sunday, February 25, 2024 in her home surrounded by her family.
She was born to the late John and Berth (Wade) Woods on April 8, 1938 in Philipsburg, Pennsylvania. Ruth was an avid sports fan. Her favorite teams were the Cardinals, the Steelers and the Pirates.
Ruth is survived by 5 daughters: Kathleen (Douglas) Horton, Tina Apponey- Stanley, Cynthia Apponey, Lydia Apponey and Victoria Apponey –Cruise; a son: Samuel (Bettina Brown) Apponey Jr.; 9 grandchildren: Samuel Apponey III, Amanda McManamy, Angela Apponey, Douglas Horton Jr., Lauren Horton, Jason Stanley, Nicholas Stanley, Melissa Peach, Kristen Apponey; 14 great grandchildren: Kirsten Brenner, Brandon Apponey, Jessalyn Lamb, Jessica McManamy, Hailey Horton, Emily Horton, Tyler Stanley, Audrey Stanley, Bastain Stanley, Santino Stanley, Ryan Peach, Savannah Peach, Caroline Hammack, Elanore Martin; 6 great-great great grandchildren: Oliva, Jayce, Tucker, Atlas, Nor and Maximus; 4 sisters: Betty Quick, Jean Hummel, Jackie Woods and Delores Silverstein.
Besides her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by a grandchild: Jessica Apponey and a sister: Thelma Smith.
Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until the time of service at 6:00pm pm on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Wojstrom Funeral Home and Crematory.
