Russell "Ross" John Zappa, 83, died 6:15 a.m., Saturday, December 2, 2017 at his residence.
Born in Wood River on October 4, 1934, he was the son of Julius and Sarah (Suduzzo) Zappa.
He had been a laborer for Local #338 in Wood River for over 60 years.
His companion and wife of 46 years, Mildred (Gleason) Zappa survives.
Surviving also are a son, Richard Gleason of East Alton; daughters, Margaret Gleason (Quincy) of Alton, Sarah (Elmer) Funderburk of Bethalto, Kim (Marc) Reinke of Wood River; 17 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; brother, Jasper (Lynn) Zappa of Delaware; a sister, Angelina (Jim) Gallacci of Rosewood Heights; nieces and nephews.
His parents; son Jeffery Gleason; daughter, Tina Weadon; granddaughter, Jessica Weadon; great granddaughter, Chloe; three brothers, Phillip, Tony and Joe Zappa preceded in death.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Bethalto Church of God, where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday. Pastor Shea Hughes will officiate.
Private burial will follow at a later date in Wanda Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
