Russell F Singleton 92 passed away at 1:05 am, Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at the Rosewood Care Center in Alton.
He was born in Hunterville, MO, on August 4, 1920 to the late Delmar and Ola (Gaultny) Singleton.
Russell married Mary (Hon) on August 14, 1940 in New Madrid, Missouri. She preceded him in death on March 7, 2007.
He served in the United States Army and was discharged in 1945. He returned home and worked at Laclede Steel. He then went to barber School College in 1949. He barbered in downtown Alton until retiring in 1986. He then started to work out of his home and fletchers barber shop part time until he was 85 years of age. He was a long time member of the North Side A.G. Since 1975.
Russell is survived by three sons and their spouses; Donald and Janice Singleton of Ware, Massachusetts, Ronald and Vicki Singleton of Godfrey, and Larry Russell Singleton of South Carolina, eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Betty Hon of Poplar Bluff, MO, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and six brothers; Alfred, Loy, Vernon, Ceciel, Louie Singleton, and two sisters; Glodene Abernathy and Clara Uhl.
Funeral services will be private at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with Pastor Roy Rhodes officiating.
Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer’s Association.
