Russell D. Church, 86, died at 5:05 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born July 14, 1928 in Grafton, IL the son of the late Thomas and Elsie (Plummer) Church. He was a Staff Sgt. in the U.S. Air Force as a senior in flight refueling operator. He was a member of the first squadron to conduct in flight refueling. He attended Shurtleff College in Alton. He retired from Laclede Steel as the maintenance yard superintendent after 36 years of service.
On June 12, 1954 in Alton he married Norma Jean Grenzebach and she survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Stephanie Hein and her husband Austin of Littleton, CO, one grandson, Eero Hein of Littelton, CO, one brother, William Church of Grafton, and two sisters, Virginia Britt and Ida Mae Watson both of Grafton. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Thomas Church.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 3, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Debra Hoertel to officiate at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
