Ruby Viola Phipps, 86, of Cottage Hills, IL, died at 1:35 a.m. Sat. Mar. 29, 2014 at Eunice C. Smith Nursing Home in Alton, IL.
She was born Jan. 24, 1928 in Jersey Co., IL to the late Russell & Ida (Tucker) Bridges.
On May 3, 1946, she and Lloyd Walter Phipps were married in Alton. They celebrated 67 years of marriage until he preceded her in death Dec. 7, 2013.
Ruby owned and operated Ruby’s Beauty Salon out of her home in Forest Homes for 50 years until she retired in 2005. She was a very faithful and active member of Forest Homes First Southern Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School.
She is survived by: a son, Paul Phipps of Cottage Hills, a daughter and son-in-law, Janet & Dennis Newman of East Alton, IL, 5 grandchildren, Natalie Forgy, Nicole Phipps, Sandra Chvala, Tammy Poulos and Angela Davis and a sister, Helen Mueggenberg of Alton.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by: a grandson, Luke Phipps, 3 brothers, Lloyd, Walter & Melvin Bridges and 2 sisters, Mabel Bridges and Mary Taylor.
Memorial visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at 11:00 a.m. Tues. Apr. 1, 2014 at Forest Homes First Southern Baptist Church with Pastor Tom Fea officiating. Burial will follow at Short Cemetery.
