Ruby V. Brown, 84, died at 6:55 a.m. Friday, November 20, 2015 at Hillside Manor Nursing Home in St. Louis, MO. Born January 13, 1931 in Hardin, IL, she was the daughter of Robert Porter and Francis I. (Lankford) Slone. Mrs. Brown was a private caretaker in homes and a member of the Abundant Life Community Church. She married Verl Brown in 1948 in Springfield, IL. He preceded her in death on April 23, 1971. Surviving is a daughter, Barbara Copeland (Reverend Randy) of Ferguson, MO, and a son, Russell Brown (Tempest) of Ft. Myers, FL. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Sarah E. Copeland of Carlinville, IL, Christopher R. Copeland (Tammie) of Exton, PA, and Mallory Nicoletti (Alex) of Arlington, TN, four great grandchildren, Branden, Reagan, Cameron and Jaden Copeland, and three sisters, Luella Irvin of Godfrey, Violet Walls of Godfrey, and Patsy Schroeter (Danny) of Alpha, FL. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Robert Slone and a sister, Loretta Likes. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, November 23, 2015 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2015. Pastor Justin Henning will officiate. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Memorials may be made to Abundant Life Community Church.
