Ruby Cato

Ruby Joan Cato, 85, of Cottage Hills, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at her residence.

She was born on May 10, 1941, in Alton, IL, the daughter of Fred R. and Mildred J. (Rinehart) Edwards. Ruby married Simon L. Cato in Cottage Hills at their family home on June 23, 1980.

Ruby was a member of 1st Baptist Church of Cottage Hills. She enjoyed gardening and flowers. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and all of her pets.

She is survived by her children, Rhonda (Gordon) Gaylord, David (Cindy) Janssen, Louis Janssen, and Jennifer (Larry Williams) Janssen; stepchildren, Rick (Kim) Cato, Gary (Missy) Cato, and Simon "Bodie" Mercer; a sister, Carol Calvert; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Along with her parents, and husband, Simon, she was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Katie Cato; and siblings, Debbie McHugh, Richard Yoakam, James Schneider, Marvin Schneider, Gary Edwards, and Carol Hamby.

Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home will hold private family services. Inurnment will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.
