Rubert Lavern "Lucky" Cauley, 68, passed away at 11:55 pm Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton.
He was born on June 5, 1951 in Wood River, IL, the son of Rubert & Lorene (Buttry) Cauley. His wife of 38 years, Susan 'Rose' (McConnell) Cauley passed away in 2009 of stage IV lung cancer.
From his teenage years until its closure he worked various positions at Laclede Steel. After assisting with its formation and opening, he continued work in the American steel production industry as the head of Metallurgy testing in Alton Steel, Inc, until his retirement. He loved science and technology, movies, music, computers, and bad jokes, but most of all he loved his family. He was always tinkering on, reading about, or sharing information about some new tech gadget or innovation in computers and robotics.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Christine Ann & Lyle Buettner of Collinsville and Jennifer Rana & Brian Oleson of Alton; six grandchildren, Luke, Cynthia & Logan Buettner, and Melyssanda, Harley & Adam Oleson; sister Mary & brother-in-law Ray Welch of Brighton, and sister Laverne & brother-in-law Palmer Lasswell of Godfrey; sister-in-law Cathy Rubemeyer; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Orland Eugene 'Gene' Rubemeyer.
In celebration of his life, a carcade visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Monday, June 8, 2020 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
Private burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
