Roy Street

Roy W. Street, 97, passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at Alton Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 24, 1928 in Zalma, MO, he was a son of Floyd and Della (Hogg) Street.

Roy started working at Owens-Illinois Glassworks in July, 1945. It was there he met the love of his life, Louise Blair. They married Nov. 7, 1946 in Alton, and shared 67 years of marriage until she passed away in 2014. 

In 1951 Roy joined the U.S. Navy, trained in the Great Lakes and was stationed in Rhode Island until his discharge in 1952. When the Owens-Illinois plant closed in 1983, Roy retired.

Survivors include his children, Donald Street of Alton, Barbara (Wm) Webber of Alton and Cathy (Thomas) Bensman of Mountain Home, AR; 2 grandchildren, Jeremy (Leslie) Street and Alyssa (Brandon) Killebrew; great grandchildren, Elliot, Adam, and Violet Street and Ethan Killebrew; a sister, Shirley Kopsie and a brother, Bill Street, both of Cottage Hills.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Tyler Street; 2 sisters, Sadie Street and Betty Kelso; and 3 brothers, Truman, Floyd, Jr. and Frank Street.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27 at the First Baptist Church, 200 N. Williams St. in Cottage Hills, with Pastor Warren Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
