Roy Goans

Roy Fredrick Goans Jr. (Curly), age 83 of White Hall passed away on July 23, 2022, at home follow- ing a lengthy illness with his family by his side. He was born November 13, 1938, in Eldred, son of the late Roy Sr. and the late Ethel (Benner) Goans. He married Peg- gy Hardwick on July 15, 1960, at the Assembly of God Church in Carroll- ton and she survives.
Also surviving is a daughter, Beverly Goans of Alton and a son, Rick Goans of Carrollton, and a granddaughter, Mary Brock (Troy Lake) of Quincy; sister, Charlotte (William) White of Carrollton; many nieces and nephews; and a special buddy Geoff Driskill, wife Carrie and daughter Blake of Carrollton. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Goans.
Roy graduated from White Hall High School
in 1956. He owned and operated Texaco Gas Station in Carrollton for six years. He worked for the City of Carrollton Street Department from 1970-1977. He then transferred to the City of Carrollton Water Treatment Plant, working as the Water Plant Supervisor from 1977-2000. When he retired in 2000, he still worked for the Water Treatment Plant part-time until 2015.
Roy loved to play cards, fish on the Missis- sippi, and squirrel hunt. He enjoyed trapping with his son Rick and good friend Donny Buchanan. He loved going to basketball games, watching Geoff play, and then coaching. He was an avid Illini and Michigan State fan. Most of all he loved spending time with his family. He was a man of great faith and read his Bible daily. He was a life-long member of Eldred Baptist Church.
The family will host a Celebration of Life on Friday, July 29, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. with lunch im- mediately following. This will be at the Carrollton First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
