Jerseyville | Save
NAME: Roy Edward Story
AGE: 91
DIED: Roy left this world to join his Savior at 3:30 p.m. Thursday September 15, 2016 at Jersey Community Hospital. Roy will be much missed by family and friends. All of his life his desire was to do for others.
BORN: April 3, 1925 in Greenfield, IL.
PARENTS: Clayton & Nellie (Kitzmiller) Story
OCCUPATION: Retired as a Self-employed heavy equipment operator. Growing up he helped the older people at the Greene County Farm. They would give him what they could in return. He saved his money to buy a bicycle which he rode to town every day. He went to work in a grocery store, but he wasn’t happy there. One day he went by the H.L. Rainey Farm where he got a job milking 25 cows and helping put up hay. His next adventure was driving a truck for Mr. Trusty hauling bales of hay to the Alton Box Board. It seemed he was always going to the Metcalf Auto Shop for repairs to keep the truck running. Mr. Metcalf decided he could use Roy in the garage repairing second hand cars. Roy worked there until he married Lena Clothier on January 23, 1949. They moved to Jerseyville to make their home where he met and became good friends with Mr. & Mrs. Willard Marshall. Mr. Marshall introduced him to Gib Moore and the two of them spread fertilizer and chemicals for Mr. Moore until Roy decided to go into bulldozing for himself. Roy greatly enjoyed helping family and friends until his health forced him to retire.
