Rosie Bushnell

Rosie Marie Bushnell, age 87, of Alton, passed away at 5:50 am, on Saturday, August 19, 2017, at Rosewood Care Center.She was born May 11, 1930 in Godfrey, the daughter of L. Carroll Short and Hilda Marie Kirn. Rosie married Jerry Bushnell August 20, 1950 in Alton.She worked as Secretary of Mark Twain Elementary School where   she was known as “Miss Rosie”, from 1969 until her retirement in 1995. Rosie was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Alton, a member and secretary of former Alton Redbird Basketball booster for many years, and the Illinois Retired Teachers Association Unit 73. She also received an award of recognition from Illinois State Board of Education’s “Those Who Excel” program.She is survived by one daughter, Brenda (Mark B.) Myers of Kansas City; three grandchildren, Samuel L. Myers, Jeremy C. Myers, and Matthew L. Myers; and one niece, Victoria Petruzza of Alton.She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Lynn M. Bushnell Pinkowski, two sisters, Norma Jean Short, and Nellie Petruzza Lathrom; and a very special friend, Bill Riggs.Visitation will be held Friday August 25, 2017, from 5 to 8:00 pm at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton. A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 12:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Andre Dobson.Burial will take place in Mount Gilead Cemetery in Carrolton.Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church and 5A’s.Online condolences and guest book may be found at www.eliaskallalandschaaf.com
