Rosa Lee Buis, 91, died at 9:35 p.m. on Friday, November 26, 2010 at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehab.
She was born August 17, 1919 in Alexander, IL the daughter of Charles Harvey and Rosa Etta Andrew Knisley. In 1939 she married Wilbur Whitaker and he preceded her in death in 1973. May 21, 1977 she married George Buis and he survives. She worked at Beverly Farms, St. Joseph’s Hospital and for 22 years at Alton Children’s Clinic for Doctor Paul Pierce as a LPN till they retired.
Besides her husband she is survived by one sister: Elizabeth "Libby" Ballard of Carrollton, IL. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, two step grandsons: Jason McCurdy and Joshua McCurdy, three step great grand children, cousins, her son in law: John McCurdy, and a special friend: Jean Marshall. She was preceded in death by her first husband, parents and brothers: Jacob Knisley, Charles Knisley, Elmer Knisley and Edgar Knisley. One sister: Virginia Knisley, step daughters: Rebecca McCurdy and Melissa Buis and sister in law: Vera Wiegand and her husband Albert, Bessie and Ed Lay, brother in law: Jesse Buis, Sr. and wife Evelyeen and sister in law Mary Hodge and her husband Clinton.
Visitation will be Monday, November 29, 2010 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Gent Funeral Home. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Greenfield, IL. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
