Roosevelt Neely, 72, passed away at 10:45 pm, Monday, October 8, 2012 at the Cahokia Nursing and Rehab Center with his family by his side.
He was born in Taylorsville, Mississippi on March 24, 1940 the son of the late Robert Manchion and Mattie May (Ranken) Neely.
On February 19, 1966 he married Ruby Berry in Jackson, MS. She survives.
Roosevelt served in the Army during the Korean War and worked as a Machinist for Shell Refinery for 13 years. He was a member of Jehovah’s Witness and the Union school.
He is survived by his wife Ruby of Alton; three daughters, Sandra Neely, Ruth Neely, and Trudy Neely, all of East Alton; five sons, Excell Norwood of Magee, Mississippi, Manchion (Shelly) Neely of Carmel, Indiana, Roosevelt Neely, James (Melissa) Neely, and Mathew Neely, all of East Alton; one sister, Josephine Norwood of Painesville, Ohio; and three grandsons.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillie Mae and Nancy McKeown; and two brothers, James and Malachi Neely.
Visitation will be from 4 pm to 8 pm, Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey, IL.
Funeral service will be at 10 am, Friday, October 12, 2012 at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey.
Burial will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery in Alton.
