Ronald Eugene Phipps, 62, died at 11:31 a.m., Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Alton Memorial Hospital after a valiant battle with brain cancer.He was born on May 31, 1952 in Alton, IL., and was one of two sons born to Edward L. and Violet (Boomer) Phipps.Ron graduated in 1970 from Jersey Community High School, and has been fortunate to be involved in an occupation that he loved.  He began farming at an early age, and continued to do so until his illness forced him to unwillingly slow down.  He instilled his love of the land on to his children and grandchildren as well.  He was passionate about tractor pulls, and was a member of the Illinois Tractor Pullers Assn. and the Illiana Pullers Assn.He married the former Connie L. Rothe on Aug. 27, 1977 at the Peace United Church of Christ in Jerseyville, and together they have shared the last 37 years together and raised their two children on their farmSurviving are his mother, Violet Phipps Fraley of Jerseyville; his wife, Connie Phipps of Kane; a son & daughter in law, Russell & Dena Phipps of Kane; a daughter & son in law, Ashley & Nick Hazelwonder of Kane; six grandchildren, Mitchell, Chloe and Macie Phipps, and Nathaniel, Campbell and Landon Hazelwonder; a brother & sister in law, Marion & Donna Phipps of Jerseyville; his father in law & mother in law, Robert & Odessa Rothe of Kane; two brothers in law and their spouses, Robert & Gayle Rothe of Jerseyville, Edwin & Vicki Rothe of Godfrey; and a sister in law, Tamara Rothe of St. Charles, Mo.He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Phipps; and his step father, 
Wilbert Fraley.Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday.  Rev. Barbara Alley will officiate.Burial will be in the Kane Cemetery.In lieu of any flowers & plants being sent, the family would greatly appreciated memorial gifts to the Jersey Community High School FFA, in honor of his love of farming.
