Roland H. Kelly

Roland H. Kelly, age 86, went to be with the lord at 3:25 a.m. on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at St. Anthony’s Health Center. 

He was born on June 16, 1924 in Stone Fort, IL, the son of Thomas & Bertha (Shaw) Kelly.

He married Lucille (Riva) Kelly in Wood River, IL on June 19, 1948.  She survives.

Roland served his country in the United States Army from 1943 until 1945.  He was employed at LaClede Steel Co. in Alton as a furnace operator for 34 years, retiring in 1981.  He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Alton, a life time member of the Alton Moose Lodge # 951, the VFW Post 1308.  He enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing and spending time with his grand and great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Ann & Stephen Wright of Springfield, IL; two grandsons, Stephen W. & his wife Krista and Patrick Wright; three great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Jacob and Nathan Wright; one sister-in-law, Martha Kelly of Alton; a special niece and her husband, Lou Anne & John Lanning of Bethalto; an adopted grandson, Luke Stout and several nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; nine brothers and four sisters.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, November 22, 2010 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 23, 2010, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto with Pastor Andre Dobson officiating.

Burial will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery, with full military rites being preformed by the Alton VFW Post 1308.

Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church and or a charity of ones choice.

The Family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Anthony’s Health Center and the Hematology Oncology Consultants Department.
