Roger McCoy Burge, 86, of O’Fallon, IL, born on July 22, 1939, in Pekin, IL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, O’Fallon, IL with his family by his side.
Roger graduated from Blackburn College in Carlinville, IL and began a career as a Food Technologist and later in life pivoted to becoming a Banking Officer. While in food research and development Roger invented Honeycomb cereal and participated with NASA during the Apollo program. Roger was a lifelong athlete and had many interests including sports cars and motorcycles, gardening (especially his much sought after tomatoes), working on puzzles, cooking, music, and spending time with his family and friends. Roger was proud to have served his country in the Michigan Army National Guard.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Harold McCoy Burge and Fern Ida Holman (nee Lawson); father-in-law, Herman August Depperman and mother-in-law, Mabel Lilly Depperman (nee Sieverson).
Left to cherish Rogers’s memory is his ever-loving wife, Sharon Rae Burge (nee Depperman); son, Douglas McCoy Burge (Sandie Young); daughter, Jane Marie Bossart (Bruce); grandchildren, Nathan Douglas Bossart (Leah), Austin McCoy Bossart (Kylee); great-grandchildren, Ada Jo Bossart, Nolan Anthony Bossart, and Maevyn Gayle Bossart.
Roger and Sharon were high school sweethearts and married in 1961. Their son and daughter could not have asked for better parents or role models.
