Rodney Greenwell

Rod Greenwell, while surrounded by the love of his family, went to heaven to meet Jesus on October 6th, 2026.
Rod was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend whose kindness and generosity touched countless lives. He spent much of his working life in home improvement and construction, proudly operating Greenwell Home Improvement as a self-employed contractor. Rod was a hardworking man who took great pride in helping others, both through his work and in his daily life.
Rod shared 45 wonderful years with the love of his life, Debbie, and they were married for 42 of those years. Together they built a life centered on God, love, family, friendship, and music. A talented guitar player and singer, Rod found joy in making music and creating memories with those he loved.
Rod was known for his loving heart and his willingness to help anyone in need. If someone called, Rod was there, no questions asked. He would do anything for anyone, and he never hesitated to lend a hand, offer advice, or simply show up when he was needed most.
When he wasn't working or spending time with family, Rod enjoyed simple pleasures. He loved taking his faithful dog, Ranger, for rides in his truck, stopping to visit friends, and being "out and about" around town. Many knew him from his regular visits to The Village Cafe, where he especially enjoyed their famous sausage and the company of friends and family.
Rod was a devoted family man and the proud father of nine children. He is survived by his beloved wife, Debbie; seven children; twenty grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers; one sister; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, who will forever cherish his memory and carry forward the lessons of kindness, generosity, and love he shared throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, two of his children, and a sister. Though they passed before him, their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life.
Rod will be remembered not only for the work he did, but for the lives he touched. His family and friends will forever miss his smile, his helping hands, his music, and the unwavering love he gave so freely.
He was deeply loved and will be deeply missed.
Gravesite services will be conducted at 2pm Saturday October 17, 2026 at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Alton.
