Roberta J. Burleson, 95, died at 5:18 a.m. Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Bethalto Care Center. She was born November 29, 1920 in Jersey County the daughter of the late Christy John and Elizabeth Johanna (Kruse) Stone. On July 4, 1940 she married Earl C. Burleson in St. Charles, MO. Their marriage lasted 54 years and eight months until his death in March 1995. A son was born in 1942, a daughter in 1945. She and Earl accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their savior the same day and were baptized at the same service. She was a member of the Heartland Baptist Church, and a past member of the United Evangelical Church of Christ and Calvary Baptist Church. Before her marriage and for a short time after, she worked for the Olin family and at the Western Cartridge Company. From then on she was a homemaker and seamstress, working at home. She is survived by a son, Ted S. Burleson (Karen) of Alton, a daughter, Carol S. Holt (William) of Plano, TX, a grandson, Jeffrey Holt, two great grandchildren, Allison Holt and Julia Holt, two sisters, Mary Lou Moore (Charles) of Alton and Shirley Berry (Paul) of Granite City. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Amma Reed of Maryville, IL and Barbara Stone of Jerseyville and former sister-in-law, Bonnie Stone of Alton as well as many nieces and nephews. Along with her father in 1940, mother in 1962, husband in 1995, and grandson James Holt in 1983, she was preceded in death by an infant brother at birth, and brothers Melvin, William, Virgil and Leon Stone, sisters, Marjorie Miller and Dorothy Eisenreich, and a sister-in-law Helen Cruthis. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 25, 2016 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Dr. Jim Grant will officiate.
