Roberta Rush

Godfrey |

Roberta Inez Rush, age 96, passed away 11:15 p.m. at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton.

She was born on October 16, 1921 in Malden, MO, to the late Sterling & Bertha Jewel (Davis) Sneed. Roberta met Phillip Rush while she was employed at the Brite Spot Drive-In in Alton and they were married on October 15, 1938. They were blessed to surpass 60 years of marriage before he passed away on January 14, 1999.

Roberta was employed for many years as a saleslady and seamstress at Phoebe Goldberg in Wood River and at the Elegante Bridal Shop in Alton, bringing beauty to the women of the Riverbend area. Throughout her life she enjoyed homemaking, sewing, cooking, gardening, fishing, camping, waterskiing, and ballroom dancing and was a beautiful woman who always had the greatest sense of style, grace and fashion. In her later years, she always flashed a smile with a sparkle in her eye when someone told her that she didn’t look to be nearly the age she claimed to be.

She is survived by four generations of family members to include a son and daughter-in-law, Garry and Evelyn Rush of Grafton; a daughter and son-in-law, Pam Rush and Toby Myers of Godfrey; a granddaughter and her husband, Kelli and Rusty Wittman of Dow; four great-grandsons, Mitch Wittman, Adam Bogard, Stone Wittman, and Luke Wittman, and two great-great-grandsons, Bentley Bogard and Case Wittman.

She is also survived by her loyal, caring friend and longtime companion, Mr. James Leighton of Hazelwood, MO, who she loved so dearly and enjoyed 17 years with following her husband’s death. In addition, she leaves behind many wonderful friends and loving caretakers at her home at United Methodist Village in Godfrey.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a dear son, Larry W. Rush in 2014 and grandson, Garry P. Rush, Jr. in 1997 as well as many, many good friends and family members who she was fortunate enough to outlive in her 96 years.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 and funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 4, 2018, both at the Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey. Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey where she will be placed by her husband and son.

Memorials in her memory may be made to the local non-profit senior living community, United Methodist Village in Godfrey, IL.
