Roberta Kay Fitzpatrick, 83, passed away at 11:30pm on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at Stillwater Senior Living in Edwardsville.
She was born in Rolla, Missouri, on November 4, 1942, the daughter of the late Frank and Ina Atkins. She graduated from East Alton Wood River Community High School and from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.
She married Ronald Ash in 1962 and he died in 1982. Their daughter, Courtney Ash Vostry preceded her in death in 2008. She married Ray Fitzpatrick in 1986, and he died on May 7, 2017. They were married thirty years.
She was an elementary teacher in the Wood River-Hartford School District and also in the East Alton School District for a total of thirty-four years. She enjoyed being around children and worked in the schools after retiring. She also enjoyed traveling and did so extensively. She was a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Wood River.
She is survived by her son in law and his wife: James and Annette Vosky of Maryville, four stepchildren: William Fitzpatrick of Grandbury, Texas, Patty Meyer of O’Fallon, Missouri, Susan Ciccarelli and her husband: Jim of Holiday Shores, and Bob Fitzpatrick of St. Charles, Missouri.
In addition to her parents, her daughter, and her husbands, she was preceded in death by a brother: Norvin Atkins and a sister: Shirlene Atkins.
In celebration of her life, private graveside services will be held at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
