Robert W. Schulz Sr.

Robert (Bob) W. Schulz Sr., 95, born on September 9, 1914, son of Bernard C & Mary (Hauck) Schulz, passed away at his home in Alton on Wednesday, May 26, 2010.

Bob graduated from Marquette Catholic High School in 1932 and married Stella Haas on August 26, 1940 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton.  Stella preceded him in death on December 8, 2001.

Bob served as a machinist in the US Army from 1941 to 1945 during WWII.  After the war, he worked for Owens Illinois Glass as a machinist in the mold repair shop retiring after 38 years of service.  Bob was an avid reader and also enjoyed golf and crafting in his home workshop.

Survivors include three sons: Robert Schulz, Jr. of Flemington, MO, Albert & Jill Schulz of Osterville, MA, and Gregory & Jan Schulz of Gurnee, IL; ten grandchildren, Julie Forbes, Jennifer (Dale) Shafer, Jason (Kristen) Schulz, Christie (Joe) Jung, Michael (Julie) Schulz, Matthew Schulz, Amy Schulz, Sarah (Jonathan) Olson, Emily (Will) McCulloch and Rachel (Stephan) Burns; seven great grandchildren; and one brother and sister-in-law, Arthur & Dorothy Schulz of Alton.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Catharine Conley, Virginia Merkle, and Mary Schulz, and four brothers, Henry, Bernard, Tony and Fr. Albert Schulz, SJ.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 9 am until time of Funeral Mass at 10 am Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton with burial to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church Capital Fund or Marquette Catholic High School Capital Campaign Fund.
