Robert V. Kallal, Sr. 91, passed away at 11:35 am Thursday, May 5, 2016 at his home with his family by his side.  

 He was born on February 7, 1925 in Jerseyville, the son of the late Frank and Josephine (Tonsor) Kallal. 

Robert married Mary E. Weisphaut on February 17, 1944 in Batchtown, IL.  She survives.    He was the owner/operator of Kallal Strawberries for a total of 46 years, retiring in 2003.  During that time he also worked at AO Smith as a forklift operator for 26 years, as well as working his farm for 18 years.  He was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville for his entire life.  He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing and most of all being with his family.

Robert is survived by his wife; his children and their spouses, Aloys and Ruth Ann Kallal of Hardin, Gary and Janet Kallal of Jerseyville, Delbert Kallal of Alton, Patrick and Patti Kallal of Valparaiso, IN and Roberta and Danny Fuller of Jerseyville; fifteen grandchildren; twenty four  great grandchildren; two great, great grandchildren  and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert “Bobby” J. and Esther Kallal, daughter-in-law, Becky Kallal, four sisters, Julian Ostermann, Pauline Kallal, Margaret Kallal and Cecilia Kallal and nine brothers, Aloys, Francis, Gene, Vincent, Theodore, Paul, Virgil, Richard and Sylvester Kallal.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. 

A funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville with Father William Hembrow officiating.

Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Fieldon, Illinois.

Memorials may be made to Masses, Holy Ghost or St Francis Schools.

Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral will be in charge of arrangements.
