Robert Steinmeyer

Robert “Bopper” F. Steinmeyer, 83, of Worden, IL, passed away at 4:50 PM on Monday, August 10, 2026 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.

He was born on March 6, 1943 in Litchfield, IL, the son of the late Albert & Frances (Miller) Steinmeyer. Robert was baptized on March 28, 1943 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Worden, IL, & confirmed on March 25, 1956 at Zion Lutheran Church in Carpenter, IL. On March 7, 1998, he married Cynthia Brunnworth Wolbert at Trinity Lutheran Church in Worden, IL & she survives.

Robert spent his career working at Granite City Steel before joining the Illinois Department of Transportation, retiring in 2001 as Lead Worker at the Hamel Maintenance Shed. Deeply committed to serving his community, he served as Omphghent Township Supervisor, was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church - where he also served as a school board member for Trinity Lutheran School - & volunteered for many years as a firefighter with the Worden Volunteer Fire Department, where he was instrumental in securing the funding for the original firehouse. He also enjoyed coaching the Worden Prairietown Raiders boys basketball team for many years.

In addition to his wife, Cynthia, he is survived by two sons - Bryan (Cindy) Steinmeyer of Worden, IL, & Derek (Lisa Vazzi) Steinmeyer of Celina, TX; two step children - Wesley Wolbert of Worden, IL, & Chantel Wolbert of Belleville, IL; two grandchildren - Shelby Steinmeyer of Chatham, IL, & Brendan Steinmeyer (fiancee’ Anna Hunsche) of Troy, IL; two step grandchildren - Bryn Sciranko of Edwardsville, IL, & Bryson Sciranko of Celina, TX; a great grandchild (due later this year) - Lennox Robert Steinmeyer; two sisters - Mary Grant of Ohio, & Jayne (Donne) Galyen of Kingman, IN; brother-in-law & sister-in-law - Harold & Diane Knackstedt of Worden, IL; & many loving nieces, nephews, & dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents - Albert & Frances Steinmeyer; his first wife - Velma (Knackstedt) Steinmeyer, who passed away on November 22, 1992; & his brother - Roy Steinmeyer, who passed away on January 4, 1999.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM on Monday, August 17, 2026 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Worden, IL. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Worden, IL, with Pastor Dustin Krystowiak officiating. Burial will follow at Worden Lutheran Cemetery in Worden, IL.

Memorial donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Worden, IL or to the Worden Volunteer Fire Department.
