Robert Maurice Guilander, 89, formerly of Kane, died Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at the Meridian Village Care Center in Glen Carbon. He was born in Jerseyville on May 5, 1920, and was one of four children born to the late Orville & Mary Edna (Killebrew) Guilander Sr. Raised in Kane, Bob graduated from Kane High School, and was a resident of Kane for many years, serving on the school board, as well as a Kane Village Trustee. 

He was 50+ year member of the Kane Baptist Church, and served with the U.S. Army during World War II.  He was also a charter member of the Crawford American Legion Post #1038 in Kane, and served on the board of the Kane Cemetery. Bob was pipefitter by trade, and began his employment with Shell Oil Company in Wood River.  Later he became employed with Ford Motor Company in Hazelwood Mo, where he retired. He married the former Effie Alice Mundy in Nov. 1940 and together they were the parents of three children.  She & Bob shared 43 years together before her death on Dec. 26, 1983.   He later married Anna Marie (Malik) Walsh on June 20, 1987 in Kane, and she died March 11, 2003.

Surviving are a daughter & son in law, Janice & Richard Raftis of North Ft. Myers, Fl.; two sons & daughters in law, Robert & Carolyn Guilander of Collinsville and Richard & Pam Guilander of Chesterfield, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and a sister & brother in law, Charlotte & George Woods of Chatanooga, Tn. He was preceded in death by a brother, Orville Guilander Jr.; and a sister, Joyce Murray.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Kane Baptist Church with Rev. Chuck Keene officiating. Burial will be in the Kane Cemetery with the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 conducting military graveside rites. Memorials may be given to the Meridian Village Care Center or to the Macular Degenration Fund through Barnes/Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
