Robert Edwards

Robert Lee Edwards, 76, died at 5:45 p.m., Friday, August 26, 2016 at Willow Rose Rehab & Health Care in Jerseyville.He was born in Carrollton on July 21, 1940, and was the son of Shirley N. & Anna (Koster) Edwards.Robert was a lifelong resident of Carrollton, and during his adult life maintained several occupations, including a positions with a steel factory in Carlinville, the City of Carrollton, and served as a bus driver for the school district, however his favorite times were spent working for area farmers,  whenever and wherever needed.He married the former Shirley Elizabeth Gilbert in Carrollton, and together they were the parents of two sons.  She preceded Robert in death in 1994.Surviving are his twin sons, Timothy Edwards and James Edwards both of Carrollton; two grandchildren, Jamie Edwards and Sean Edwards: a sister & brother in law, Judy & John Groppel of Jerseyville; and a brother, Dale Edwards of Carrollton; along with numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister in law, Roberta "Bertie" Edwards.Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, and will continue from 10 a.m. Wednesday until time of funeral services at 11 a.m.  Father Patrick Gibbons will officiate.Private burial at the St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Carrollton will be held at a later date.
