Robert L. Greear, age 86, went home to be with the Lord on July 19, 2026 with his wife and daughter, Rena'e by his side. He was born in Edwardsville, Illinois on November 25, 1939, son of the late, Melvin and Clara Greear.
On February 14, 2004, he married Judy Prather at Calvary Baptist Church, and she survives. Together they have shared a blended family of three children: Rena'e and husband Lindsay; Ronald and wife, Tracy; Jeffrey and wife Cheryl. He was devoted to his grandson, Brennon, and his other grandchildren, Natasha and husband Jason, Tim and wife Krysta, Nick, Tabitha and husband Wayne and Craig; his great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and his beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Melvin "Buddy" Greear and sisters, LaVerne Bloemker and Betty Ann Keller.
He graduated from Eureka High School, Eureka, Illinois in 1958. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving in Europe from 1960 to 1964 as Airman Second Class. While in the military, he attended classes at the University of Maryland.
Following his discharge from the Air Force, he worked at Walston Aviation in Bethalto and later Shell Oil Company. He retired as a pipefitter from Shell in April, 1989. He enjoyed woodworking and spent many hours in his shop making works-of-arts for members of his family and friends. He also loved Cardinals Baseball, Blues Hockey, and his beloved Bears Football team. He was a long time member of Calvary Baptist Church in Alton and served as Head Usher for many years. He loved working with the "Thursday Guys" and all the children at Calvary. His passion was to love the Lord and to serve his church.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026 from 9:00 am until time of service at 10:30 am at Calvary Baptist Church. Pastor Andre Dobson will officiate. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church.
