Robert Erick Hahn, age 93, passed away Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018, at Brookdale University Park Assisted Living in Denver, CO with his family by his side.
He was born January 17, 1925, in Chicago, the son of Erick and Maria (Salas) Hahn. He married Dorothy Kuhns on February 11, 1950 in Decatur, IL, and she preceded him in death in 2003.
Robert proudly served his country overseas in the US Army during WWII. He was a member of the VFW. Robert had been a long time member of Moro Presbyterian Church where he relished singing in the choir. His greatest joys were spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Robert was a chemist who had done extensive research with soybeans as an employee of Staley's in DecaturHe then worked several years at Ralston-Purina in St Louis, on the Research and Development team where he secured patents for invention of soy products. He retired from Waste Management in 1992 where he had worked in testing.
He is survived by a son and his wife, Stephen and Adrian "Dee Dee" Hahn of Aurora, IL; a daughter and her husband, Jane and David Hall of Denver, CO, and his daughter, Laurel O'Hara of Portland, OR; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and friends.
In addition to his wife, Dorothy; and his parents; he is preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Bergman of Racine, WI.
Visitation will be held Thursday, November 8, 2018, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.
Funeral services will be held Friday, November 9, 2018, at 9:00 am at Moro Presbyterian Church.
Burial will take place in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Moro Presbyterian Church.
