Robert Hewitt

Robert E. “Bob” Hewitt, 92, of Alton, Illinois passed away on Monday,

May 28, 2018 at Evelyn’s House in Creve Coeur, Missouri.

He was born on November 27, 1925  in Alton and was the son of the late

Lionel and Bertha (nee: Stielger) Hewitt.

Bob married the former Norma L. (nee: Gunn) Kitsmiller on November 2, 1957 in Alton.  She survives.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army during

World War II, as a Sgt and paratrooper.  He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church,Lifetime member of V.F.W. Alton #1308,

Knights of Columbus Alton #460,

and was a 74 year member of the former Eagles #254.

Prior to retirement, he was employed many years by Painters Union Local # 471 as a painter.

In addition to his beloved wife of 60 years, he is also survived by

4 sons;  John (Mary) Hewitt of Austin, Texas, Jeffery Hewitt of Alton,

Richard (Carolyn) Kitsmiller of Alton, and Ronnie (Becky) Kitsmiller of Bunker Hill,

a daughter; Beverly Moore of Alton

a sister-in-law; Betty Hewitt of Alton

8 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter; Lesley McMillen, 

two brothers; Kenneth “Lefty” Hewitt, and Dane Hewitt,

and by a sister; Leota Hewitt.

  Visitation will be on Thursday, May 31, 2018, 4:00 – 7:00 pm at

Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton where services will also be held on Friday,June 1, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.

  Interment will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, where military honors will be accorded by V.F.W. #1308 Ritual Team.

  Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton or to

Alton Area Animal Aid Association.
