Robert Nickell

Robert D. Nickell, 84, died at 9:06 a.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at his residence. He was born August 13, 1933 in Alton the son of the late Samuel M. and Edna (Hill) Nickell Sr. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, a member of the Alton Wood River Sportsman’s Club and Franklin Masonic Lodge #25. He retired from C & W Equipment and was the former owner of Bob’s Lawn and Garden in Godfrey. Bob loved spending time with his family. He loved hunting, fishing, telling stories and watching sports, especially the Cardinals. On June 4, 1960 in Alton he married Mary (Crivello) and she survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Christine Baker (James) of Fosterburg, Barbara Gomes (Rick) of Tequesta, FL and one son, Robert Scott Nickell (Wendy) of Carlinville, IL, five grandchildren, Allison, Abby, Christopher “CJ” Baker, Hailey Gomes (fiancé’ Jon Ucelo) and Kerrie Gomes, three sisters, Mary Jane McDaniel, Betty Ann Wagner and Edna Lou Gleghorn. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathleen Nickell and one brother, Samuel Nickell Jr. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Godfrey First United Methodist Church with Reverend Steven Friese officiating. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey, with full military honors. Memorials may be made to BJC Hospice, American Heart Association or American Diabetic Association.
