Rosewood Heights |

Robert "Bob" Arthur Buchanan, 77, passed away 1:03 a.m. Monday, January 30, 2017 at Christian Hospital-Northeast, with his wife by his side, following a long, courageous battle with C.O.P.D.

Born in Lime Springs, IA on December 14, 1939, he was the son of Arthur "Jack" and Eleanor Venita (Kitchen) Buchanan.

On November 19, 1960, he was married to his high school sweetheart, Nancy Titsworth in Roxana by Rev. William Rice. They were blessed with 56 years of marriage.  They shared a happy life together, and shared the grief of losing their only son, Kent, at the age of 16 in 1884.

Bob retired from Illinois Local 8 as a Stone Mason and Bricklayer.  He was a life member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craft Workers. Served as a Field Representative for Local 8.  He was a member of Wanda United Methodist Church and Wood River Moose Lodge #1349.  Bob attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale prior to serving in the United States Army with the 101st Airborne Division in Clarksville, TN.

He was a voracious, avid reader, a sports enthusiast and enjoyed old tractors.  Before his illness, he traveled throughout the United States attending Tractor Shows, displaying his antique tractors and attending swap meets.  He took great joy in a 1950 8N Ford tractor, restored by Mike Myers and his family of Moro, and developed lifetime friendship with them.  He was a race car fan and in earlier years, raced late model race cars.  Bob enjoyed and appreciated the simple pleasures in life, loving the outdoors and nature.  Most of all, he loved his family.  A longtime classmate and friend, Jim Groppel, of Roxana, together they had 60 plus years of uninterrupted friendship and100,000 circumstances shared together.  Bob had a good sense of humor he held all the way to the end.

In addition to his wife, Nancy, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly Kay and Rick Rietbrock; three grandchildren, who were the pride of his life, never missing an opportunity to brag on them and their accomplishments, Trenton, Caron and Isley Rietbrock all of Cedarburg, WI; two sisters, Bonnie Browder of Oklahoma, Jackie Berger of Wisconsin; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bill and Phyllis Stogsdill of Alton, Ed and Carol Titsworth of Roxana, Rochelle Wooden of Bethalto, Ted Titsworth of Bethalto; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son; brothers, Roger and Bill Buchanan; and nephew, Michael Kidd.  Bob's faith in our Heavenly Father, and in Jesus Christ, has allowed him to be reunited in heaven with Kent, completely healed of their sufferings.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m until time of service at 12 p.m. Friday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River.  Rev. Gary Mosimann will officiate.

Burial will follow in Woodland Hill Cemetery.
