Robert A. Mahan, 89, died at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Robings Manor in Brighton.  Born August 29, 1927 in East St. Louis, he was the son of Ruben and Eva (Schrimpf) Mahan.  Mr. Mahan served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a member of the VFW Post 1308 and the Franklin Masonic Lodge.  He retired as a plastering contractor after 50 years of services, last employed by Bill Holbrook Construction Company.  He is survived by his wife, Betty, three sons, Dannie A. Mahan of Godfrey, Robin P. Mahan (Cathy) of Alton, and Alan Scott Mahan of Alton, five grandchildren, Amy Hardas (Jason), Brett, Colynn, Vanessa and Catherine Mahan, and two great grandchildren, Evan and Kailyn Hardas.  Also surviving is a brother, Charlie Mahan and two sisters, Bertha Street, and Mabel Dillard.  Along with his parents he was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Sara, two brothers, James and Mike Mahan and a sister, Georgia Myers.  Services were private at Gent Funeral Home with Deacon Bill Kessler officiating.  Burial was a Rose Lawn Memory Garden in Bethalto.  Memorials may be made to Robings Manor Activity Fund.  Online guestbook and information may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com
