Rita Straube Maggos, passed away peacefully at 9:37 am. December 8th 2018. She was the devoted wife of fifty-nine years to Dennis Maggos, who lovingly cared for her at their home until the time of her death.
She was born on July 11, 1932 in Granite City, IL the daughter of William & Irene (Lahey) Straube.
Rita Marie grew up in Edwardsville and graduated from St. Boniface Catholic Grade School in Edwardsville and later from Marquette Catholic High School in Alton. She worked at Olin Corporation with the Pension Department. She and Dennis owned and operated the Red Garter Night Club. She enjoyed camping, swimming and floating on rafts. She and her family and friends made a life-time of memories spending most summer weekends at the Lake she so loved. She enjoyed traveling to Cabo San Lucas and going to Key West in February. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, relished her Irish lineage and enjoyed a good Manhattan.
In addition to her husband, Dennis; she is also survived by three sons and three daughters-in-law, Julie Maggos, Mark & Meladee Maggos, Dan & Sandy Maggos, and Denny Maggos; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Teresa Maggos; son, William Maggos; two grandchildren, Teresa and Danielle Maggos; four brothers, Jimmy, Bill, Jerry and Bob Straube; and one sister, Betty Parker.
A Celebration of Rita’s Life will be held from 1 to 4 pm Sunday December 16, 2018 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey.
