Rita J. Fairless, 74, passed away 8:30 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2015 at Alton Rehab and Nursing.
Born in Wood River on June 22, 1940, she was the daughter of Roy and Virginia (Kennedy) Heck.
She had been a custodian and bus driver in the East Alton Wood River High School District before retiring. She had been an active member of the Women of the Moose Lodge #1349, having served as Past Sr. Regent.
On March 16, 1957 in Holly Springs, MS, she married Gary G. Fairless. He survives.
Surviving also are two sons, Mark (Cathy) Fairless and Terry (Nancy) Fairless all of Wood River; daughter, Jodi (Ron) Witcher of New Douglas; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; brother, Bob (Helen) Heck of Naperville; two sisters, Bonnie Branz of Houston, TX, Delores Wiseman of Wynne, Ark.; brother-in-law, Bill Fairless of Lakeland, FL; sister-in-law, Carol Luketich of Gillespie;several nieces and nephews; and best friend since third grade, Connie Oster.
Preceding in death were her parents; sister, Janice Hill; and daughter-in-law, Tina Elaine Ringering-Fairless.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River, where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Pastor Richard Newcom will officiate.
Burial will follow in Woodland Hill Cemetery.
