Richard Dallas Simpson, 82, of Collinsville, IL, passed away at 4:57 a.m. Sat. Jan. 17, 2026 peacefully at his home.
He was born Jun. 18, 1943 in St. Louis, MO to the late Lula (Shelton) Herman and the late Jake Simpson.
Richard was a U.S. Army veteran and became a union carpenter with Local #633 following his military service. He had been a member of the former Concordia Lutheran church. He had also been a member of the Madison AmVets. Richard loved his pets and sports. He played baseball, softball and basketball in his younger days.
He is survived by his loving companion, Phyllis Smith of Collinsville, a son, Andrew (Debi Brumit) Simpson of St. Louis, a daughter, Tonnya (Dan) Monroe of Granite City, IL, 2 grandchildren, Jason, and Olivia, 7 great-grandchildren, Jax, Zander, Rylen, Lincoln, Madden, Jalee, and Gemma, a brother Curt (Georgia) Simpson of Carbondale, IL,sister-in-law, Peggy Rusick, brother-in-law, Dan Brake, nephews, Phil Simpson, Mike Simpson, Keith Lohman, Tim (Betty) Lohamn, Mark (Leslie) Rusick, Chris (Nancy Clayton Traub) Rusick, nieces, Maggie Carpenter, Mindy Simpson, Sherry Simpson, Lisa Anderson and Beth Riess, great-nephews, Seth Simpson, and Will Simpson, and great-nieces, Leah, and Rinoa.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Rudolph Herman, former spouse, Dorthy N. Simpson, a sister, Wanda Lohman, a brother, Burt Simpson, great-niece, Jennifer Simpson, 2 brothers-in-law, Bill Lohman, and Charlie Rusick, a cousin, Gary Simpson and a niece-in-law, Nora Lohman.
Memorial visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until time of memorial services at 6:00 p.m. Thurs. Jan. 22, 2026 at Wojstrom Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. William Hale officiating. Burial with military honors will be at 10:30 a.m. Fri. Jan. 23, 2026 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. For those who wish to attend the burial services, please arrive at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. on Fri. Jan. 23, 2026. The funeral procession will leave promptly at 9:45 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Granite City ASPCA or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
