Richard Short

Richard "Mike" Michael Short, 75, of Edwardsville, IL, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2026, at his residence.

He was born on December 27, 1950, in Alton, IL, the son of Adrian Short and Margaret (Morehouse) Short. Mike married Kathryn D. Lackey on November 23, 1984, and she survives.

Mike is a United States Navy Veteran. He obtained his associate's degree and worked at RCA as an engineer. Some of his favorite things were fishing, riding his motorcycle, and his dogs. Mike was a member of the Lyon's Club, and VFW in Statesboro, GA. Additionally, he volunteered at the Statesboro food pantry. He loved spending time with his beloved wife and friends, as well as his grandchildren.

Along with his wife, he is survived by a son, Jason (Karmin) Hall of Bethalto; a daughter, Christina Morris, of TX; siblings, Jan Hewitt of Arkansas, and Karen Munt of WI; a brother, Randee Short; and a brother-in-law, Walter Potwara of Wood River. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, Tyler, Gavin, Carter, Justice, Hudson, Paxton, Christian, David, Davian, and Hayley; as well as several great-grandchildren.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Jean Potwora; and three brothers, Harold, Jack, and Jerry Short.

A visitation will be held on Monday, July 13, 2026, from 9:30 am until time of service at 11 am, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto.

Interment will take place at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO, at 12:30 pm after funeral services.

Memorials are suggested to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and/or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
