Richard Schneider

Richard Lee “Dick” Schneider, 82, of Beloit, WI, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Mercyhealth Hospital in Janesville.

He was born in Urbana, Illinois on December 2, 1943, to parents Lester and Mary (Miller) Schneider. After graduating from Marquette High School in Alton, Illinois in 1961, he attended the University of Missouri-Rolla where he earned his degree in the inaugural Engineering Management class in 1968. Dick married the love of his life, Kathryn “Kay” (Kribs) at St. Boniface Church in Edwardsville, Illinois on August 26, 1967. For 20 years, he worked at Alton Box Board while their family grew. In 1984, he relocated to Beloit to assume the mill manager position at Beloit Box Board where he stayed for 27 ½ years. He was a lifelong, true papermaker and engineer.

Dick lived for his family, traveling throughout the country visiting his children, grandchildren, and extended family at every opportunity. He had an eclectic set of hobbies to include wood working, clocks, telling (tall) tales of the past, and relentlessly pranking his loved ones and strangers alike. A devoted Catholic, he volunteered for many organizations to include the township of Beloit, Our Lady of the Assumption Parish and School and Beloit Catholic High School, overseeing and handling maintenance for hours on end, running concession stands and helping in any capacity he could. He believed no one knew him truly as our God does, with his ultimate goal in life and for his family being to do what is right (God’s will) so we can all be together in heaven to drink from the Blessing Cup at God’s table of Thanksgiving. As a Dad, Grandpa, brother, cousin, friend and neighbor, he will be sorely missed by all.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 ½ years, Kathryn; children, Mike, Bob (Cathy), Jim (Dana), Matt, Joe (Karen), Sarah Huley (Braden); grandchildren, Jenna Estrada (Jorge), Kara Simon (Devin), Zach, Alexa, Jacob, Megan, Ella, Caleb, Piper, Ryan, Patrick, Allison, Tyler, Jonathan, Amelia, and Cora; as well as his siblings, Barb Johnson (Jim), Mary Marg Wock (Mike), Kate Parks (Steve), Ann Forsting, Pat, Bob (Connie), Joe (Tina), Sue Hilker (Bobby); in-laws Tom Kribs, Steve Kribs, Susie Lochmann (Mike), and a large extended family, including many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Lester and Mary, brother-in-law Mike Forsting, and sisters-in-law Donna Kribs and Karen Kribs.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial for Dick will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 22, 2026 in Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 2222 Shopiere Rd., Beloit, WI, with Fr. Bart Timmerman officiating. Visitation will also be from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Friday in the church. Inurnment will be in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens, Bethalto, IL at a later date.

Services will be livestreamed and viewable at Queen of Martyrs Churches - Beloit & Clinton, WI.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Our Lady of Assumption Parish in care of “God’s Fund,” or any charitable donation with personal meaning.
