Richard “Rick” E. Thomas, 90, passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at his home in Bethalto, with his family by his side.

He was born on January 8, 1928, in Clinton, Kentucky, the son of Clyde D. and Bertha M. (Clapp) Thomas.

Rick married Mary F. Miller on March 13, 1953, in East Alton.  She preceded him in death.

Rick is a Veteran of the United States Army.  He retired as a truck driver for Kienstra Concrete Trucking Company in Alton.  He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Cottage Hills where he was an Elder.  Rick was also a past member of the Wood River Moose.  He enjoyed golfing, gambling, bowling, being outside doing yardwork, and spending time with his family and his friends.

Survivors include four children and their spouses, Rick L. Thomas of Bethalto, Terri and David Delp of Cottage Hills, Tim and Paula Thomas of Jerseyville, Traci and Mark Frields of Wood River; seven grandchildren, Christy Delp, Jake Delp, Cierra Frields, Jennifer Leone, Josh Thomas, Dustin Thomas, Cassidy Thomas; nine great grandchildren, Chloe Gleason, Nick Delp, Hannah Delp, Haylee Delp, Austin Delp, Kylie Thomas, Keagan Thomas, Justyce Leone, Triston Leone; a sister, Betty Ottwell of Bethalto; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Along with his wife, Mary, Rick was preceded in death by his parents; great grandson Alex Delp and several brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be from 4 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Visitation will continue on Friday, February 23, 2018 from 9 am until time of funeral service at 10 am at Concordia Lutheran Church in Cottage Hills.  Pastor Mark Harris and Jacob Schultz will be officiating.

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Military rites will be conducted by the Alton VFW Post 1308.
