Richard McCuen

Medora |

MEDORA -    Richard Lee McCuen, 83, died at 8:30 p.m., Monday, February 13, 2017 at the Alton Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Alton on October 6, 1933, and was one of five children born to Clarence L. and Annyce L. (Davidson) McCuen.

Richard was a man of determination and pride and instilled into his children those same values of hard work and loyalty.  He was involved in agriculture from his early years, and operated a grain and livestock from outside of Medora, where he and his wife made a wonderful life for themselves and raised their two children.    During this same time, he was employed at the Secretary of State, Motor Vehicle Division, and commuted to Springfield daily until his retirement at the age of 72.

He married the love of his life, Margaret Anita Strebel on Nov. 26, 1960 at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Jerseyville.  Although thankful and blessed for their 43 years together, the years weren't nearly enough, as she passed on February 19, 2004.

Surviving are his daughter and son in law, Debbie and Rick Miller of Bethalto; a son, Richard L. McCuen Jr. of Taylor Springs; two grandchildren, Jennifer Miller and Benjamin Miller both of Bethalto; and a sister, Maxine Booth of Jerseyville.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m., Sunday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday.  Father Tom Liebler will officiate.

He will be laid to rest alongside his beloved wife at the Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.

Memorials may be given to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
