Rex Paddock

Jerseyville | Save

Rex L. Paddock, 80, died on September 21st, 2017, at the Jerseyville Nursing and Rehab Center in Jerseyville, IL, where he and his grateful family received kind, loving care from the wonderful nurses and staff of both Jerseyville Nursing and Rehab and BJC Hospice.

Rex was born in Kansas on January 18, 1937, to the late George and Iva (Huffman) Paddock, and later moved to Grafton, IL, when he and his brother Dex were children. After graduating high school in the top of his class, Rex attended college and served for two years in the United States Air Force. He was married to the late Dorothy J. Clarkson from 1968 until their divorce in 1988.

As a young man, he held a small plane pilot’s license for several years, and enjoyed outdoor adventures and activities like scuba diving, swimming and skydiving. He spent many happy hours throughout his life hunting, trapping and fishing in the Grafton area as well as other locations like Colorado, Alaska and Canada. After retirement, he also enjoyed trips to Arkansas with his good friend David Cassens and time spent with his late longtime companion and fishing buddy Reta Wallace.

Rex worked for the Grafton Telephone Company until his retirement, and counted owners Paul and Pat Arnold, their family and many of their fellow employees as his friends, along with the neighbors who showed him such caring and concern over the years, many of whom he’d known their entire lives.

In addition to his parents, Rex was preceded in death by many old friends and dearly loved aunts, uncles and other relatives. He is survived by his daughter, Shelley Ontis of Jerseyville, his granddaughter, Emily Ontis of Charleston, IL, and his brother and sister-in-law, Dex and Carol Paddock of Grafton.

There will be no memorial service at this time, but his eulogy and memorial can be read at http://rexpaddock.wordpress.com.
