Reverend Charley E. Belt

Reverend Charley E. Belt, 92, died at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at Bethalto Care Center. Born October 7, 1919 in Cave-In-Rock, IL, he was the son of Jonathon and Carrie (Dutton) Belt.
He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. Reverend Belt was a pastor at a General Baptist Church in Chicago Heights and a General Baptist Church in Elkhart, IN. He also worked as an auto and truck repair mechanic for over 30 years. He was a member of the Cornerstone Assembly of God Church and the Bethalto American Legion. On November 3, 1942 in St. Charles, MO he married Lenore Anderson. She preceded him in death on November 21, 1991.
He married Mary Ruth Watts. She survives in Bethalto. Also surviving are three daughters, Ellen Vannier (Dr. Michael) of Crete, IL, Elaine Dunnagan (Reverend Joe) of Bethalto, Emily Taylor (Ricky) of South Chicago Heights, IL, two step-daughters, Debbie Lamere (Joe) of Bethalto, and Judy Wong (Anson) of Canoga Park, CA, nine grandchildren, Lisa Albright, Laura Wind (Tom), Lynette Neumann (Todd), Ben Andrus (Marie), Lee Ann Pruett (Steve), Matt Andrus (Tracy), Jonathon Taylor (Annette), Craig Dunnagan (Dianne), and Jennifer Church (Pastor Mark), twenty great grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by seven sisters, Nigel Whitehead, Jewel Sumski, Hester Kugler, Elsie Jordan, Nevel Brooks, Erva Thacker, and Jane Blaine, and four brothers, Willie, Clyde, Lloyd, and Eugene Belt.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2012 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308. Reverend Joe Dunnagan will officiate.
