Raymond A. Jones, 91, passed away at 1:10 am on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at Eldercare Nursing Home in Alton.

He was born on May 18, 1919 in Wood River, Illinois, the son of Alex & Anna (Fox) Jones.

He married Marcella Leimbach on September 6, 1942 in Saint Louis, Missouri. She survives.

Raymond served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, serving in Europe. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart and was a POW. He worked as an operator for Shell Oil for over 30 years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto and the Bethalto American Legion Post #214.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel & Dale Jones of Bunker Hill and Scott & Pat Jones of Alton; a daughter and son-in-law, Melanie & Sid Kuhn of Red Deer Alberta, Canada; thirteen grandchildren, Richard and Elaine Jones, Benjamin, Michael and David Kuhn, Cindy Roe, Elizabeth and Margaret Jones, John & Cheyenne VanGalder and Matthew, Mary, Dameraris Jones and eleven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will from 4 to 8 pm on Monday, May 24, 2010 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Visitation will continue from 10 until service time at 11 am on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto with Pastor Dan Decker officiating.

Burial will be at Hartford Cemetery in Grafton with military honors given by the Alton VFW Post 1308 Ritual Team.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto or Lutheran Radio Station K.F.U.O.
