Ray Fitzpatrick

Ray A. Fitzpatrick, age 95, of Wood River, Illinois, died at 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 7, 2017, at Rosewood Care Center in Alton, Illinois.  Ray was born in Franklin, Indiana, the son of the late William & Reba (Abbott) Fitzpatrick.  He graduated from Edwardsville High School and Brown Business College in St. Louis, Missouri. Ray worked as a foreman with Amoco Refinery in Wood River for 40 years retiring in 1981.  He married Irene Frey on February 25, 1941, and she preceded him in death in 1983.  He later married Kay Ash on August 9, 1986, and she survives.  Besides his wife, Kay he is survived by two sons, William Fitzpatrick of Wildwood, Missouri and Robert Fitzpatrick of St. Charles, Missouri; two daughters, Patricia Meyer of O’Fallon, Missouri and Susan Ciccarelli & husband Jim of Holiday Shores, Illinois; nine grandchildren;  15 great grandchildren; 2 sisters-in-law, Ruth Churchich and Shirlene Atkins.  Ray was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Courtney Vostry and a sister, Dorothy Baker.

Ray served with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during WWII. He was a life member of the Alton VFW Post 1308, the Wood River Moose Lodge 1349 and was a Wood River Township Trustee for 18 years. There will be a private visitation and burial at Calvary Cemetery in Glen Carbon. The family request memorials to the donor’s choice.
