Ralph E. Knudson, 90, died at 7:36 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Friendship Home in Carlinville, IL. Born May 10, 1925 in Atwater, IL, he was the son of Newton Eugene and Mary Elizabeth (Gunning) Knudson. Mr. Knudson retired in 1986 from Laclede Steel Co. after 31 years of service. He was a former member of the Jerseyville Moose Lodge and Jerseyville Elks Lodge. On May 30, 1987 he married Katherine V. Giberson in Jerseyville. She preceded him in death on January 30, 1997. Surviving are two daughters, Rose Ann Phelps (Mark) of Shipman and Cheryl Lucas (Richard) of Alton, daughter-in-law, Jenny Knudson, of Hankinson, N. Dakota, son-in-law, Derel Dowland of Chesterfield, IL, 14 grandchildren as well as great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers Dan Knudson of Springfield, MO, Richard Knudson of Carlinville, and Gerald Knudson of Girard, a sister, Doris Kuntzmann of Carlinville, and ½ sister Mary Ann Maltby of Carlinville and his significant other Vivian Wiseman of Hartford. Along with his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Jean Dowland, a son Garrett Knudson, and two brothers, John and Jim Knudson. A memorial visitation will be from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2016 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Memorials may be made to the 5A’s Animal Shelter or the Alzheimer’s Association.
