Priscilla Mathus

Priscilla D. Mathus, 92, died on Saturday, February 17, 2018 in Bloomington, Indiana.

The former East Alton resident was born on November 29, 1925, the daughter of Charles Cecil and Phyllis (McCoy) Young, now deceased.

On April 18, 1946, she married Howard A. Mathus in Alton, and he preceded her in death on June 12, 2004.

She enjoyed her role as a wife, mother, grandmother and community volunteer. As a life member of the Edwardsville American Legion Auxiliary, she served in various leadership roles including chairmanships on the local, county, district and division levels.  She was a past president of the Wood River American Legion Auxiliary, having twice served alongside her husband; and past president of Madison-Bond County Council; and she attended the Arlington United Methodist Church, Bloomington, Indiana.

She is survived by her daughter, Pamela A. Mathus (Kenneth) Grohman, of Bloomington, Indiana, with whom she resided; and their daughter, Vanessa M. Grohman, North Palm Beach, Florida.  She is also survived by her son, Mark A. Mathus, of Brighton, Illinois; and his children Meagan Choeng, Springfield, Missouri,  Jeffrey Mathus, Republic, Missouri; and two great-grandchildren Lennon and Callie, Springfield, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Mary Young of Galesburg, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Lionel Young and sister, Mary Ellen Barber.

The family will receive family and friends beginning at 12:00 pm at Paynic Home for Funerals in East Alton, with the services following at 1:00 pm on Friday, February 23, with Rev. Daryl Fansler officiating.  Burial will be at Woodland Hill Cemetery in Wood River, Illinois
