Phyllis Libsack, age 86 of Greenville, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2024, at HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in O’Fallon, Illinois.
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 10, from 2–4 p.m. at the Donnell–Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. Private interment will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri. Phyllis was born June 28, 1938, in Tazewell, Tennessee to Bobbie Lanham Redmond and Shelby Redmond who both preceded her in death. She was a 1956 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Beckley, West Virginia.
Preceded in death by her husband Gerald H. Libsack, brother Fred H. Redmond of Corryton, Tennessee, and sister Marjorie King of Sun City, Arizona. Survived by her daughters: Deborah Garde of White Springs, Florida, and Charlene Watson (Gary) of O’Fallon, Missouri. Grandmother to David Meisinger and wife Aubry of Greenville, Devin Meisinger and wife Megan of Pocahontas, and Heather Marsac of St. Louis, Missouri. Great-grandmother to Harper, Lena, Carver, and Hailey.
After graduating from high school, she worked in the Diagnostic Clinic of Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD. She was a U.S. Civil Servant for 30 years working for the Department of the Air Force, Department of the Army, and the Corps of Engineers, Missouri River District. She was a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association. She volunteered at the Bond County Senior Center delivering meals on wheels and counselor for the Senior Health Insurance Program of Illinois from 1994 to 2017. During that time, she received the Governors Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Volunteer in 2006 for work with the Medicare Part D program. In 2011, Phyllis was awarded the Volunteer Counselor of the year for southern Illinois from the Illinois Department of Insurance for work with Medicare Parts A and B program. She and Jerry were antique enthusiasts and enjoyed buying and selling antiques for many years in the area.
